GLAD and NCLR Applaud SERVE Act Introduction to Protect Transgender Veterans
Attorneys at GLAD and NCLR,
the organizations leading the legal fight to end the ban, issued the following
statements on the introduction of the Securing the Rights our Veterans Earned
Act, or SERVE Act, in the U.S. House of Representatives:
“We applaud Rep. Pappas and the bill’s co-sponsors for their commitment to supporting our transgender service members in the face of the military’s current discriminatory policy. This latest version of ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’ does nothing but weaken our military and harm dedicated service members,” said Jennifer Levi, Transgender Rights Project Director at GLAD.
“We stand with leaders across
the country in rejecting this baseless and shameful policy and will continue
fighting to see the ban overturned for good,” said Shannon Minter, Legal
Director at NCLR.
